Released today, Romance marks the fourth studio album by the Irish rock band Fontaines D.C. Produced by James Ford, this album follows on from previous works: Dogrel (2019), A Hero's Death (2020), and Skinty Fia (2022). Romance showcases the powerful lead single 'Starburster', a track inspired by a panic attack lead singer Grian Chatten experienced at London’s St Pancras station. The song's intensity is heightened by sharp, feral intakes of breath, capturing the raw emotion of the moment. Guitarist Carlos O'Connell added that Korn, Deftones, and Alice In Chains all inspired the writing of 'Starburster'.
Packed with singles, Romance holds a wide variety of areas with 'Favourite' being melancholic and holding a jangle similar to The Smiths. Their most recent single 'In A Modern World' is a much slower reflection that takes influence from Lana Del Rey and the book On The Road by Jack Kerouac, it's a track that has been hinted as a response to their song 'Big' off their debut album Dogrel.

The album has been already met with praise, with many calling it a fresh and groundbreaking step forward for the band. They’ve taken on new sounds and styles, blending influences from Nu-Metal, Japanese manga, Beat Poetry and classic Britpop to help create their escapism. It’s a bold mix that shows the change in the band's sound whilst, being a standout moment in their career.
