TM Breakthrough Vol. 23

A new TM Breakthrough is here, presenting a host of Townsend Music's best upcoming artists for your listening pleasure. Running the gamut from post-punk to hip-hop, by way of hard rock and pop bops, this is TM Breakthrough Vol. 23.

Do Nothing - Snake Sideways

For Fans Of: Suede, Fontaines D.C.

Nottingham post-punks Do Nothing blend jerky, spidery rhythms with surreal, half-spoken vocals that recall The Fall's, Mark E. Smith. Do Nothing was formed in 2017 by four long-time school friends: frontman Chris Bailey, guitarist Kasper Sandstrøm, drummer Andy Harrison, and bassist Charlie Howarth.

Initially attempting to copy big names like LCD Soundsystem (as heard on their first 7" single, 'Gangs', released in 2019), they eventually became more confident about doing their own thing, and Bailey gave his stream-of-consciousness lyrics and outsider stage persona free rein. Associated with, but wary of, the then-popular post-punk revival, they made clear it was their intention to follow their own path.

“Writing this album has made us accept that sometimes, you don’t have complete control over everything.” - Chris Bailey

Out on June 30th, Snake Sideways can be pre-ordered on the Official Do Nothing Store. Available on Signed Black Vinyl, Signed CD and various Cassette colours alongside a new range of merchandise.

For some, it might feel like a long time coming but Hot Milk always knew that when the time came to make their debut album, they had to be ready for it. It will be their loudest statement yet of who they are and what they stand for, an opportunity to show the world what they are made of.

“We wrote songs with the intention of people going off, making you feel good, opening the pit up, letting go, crying, getting on your mate’s shoulders…" - Jim Shaw

"'Thought We Were Falling In Love' is, on the face of it, breezy, light and jubilant, but within the fast air of effects pedals" - Edge Of Arcady

Deco - Nice Car

For Fans Of: The Lottery Winners, Red Rum Club

Deco's 6-track EP Nice Car continues their refined signature sound, which sits somewhere along the lines of Duran Duran and George Michael, meets Dua Lipa and The Weeknd.

The band have had a huge few years after going viral in the 2021 lockdown for their fun 80s mash-up covers, which include the likes of 'Bitter Sweet Symphony', Britney Spears’ 'Toxic', and 'Wannabe' by the Spice Girls. One particular cover of Oasis’ 'Wonderwall' to the tune of 'Smalltown Boy', by Bronski Beat, amassed over four million views across TikTok and Twitter, being picked up by Good Morning Britain, BBC News and BBC Radio 2.

"Bright, brassy, and bouncy, the band maintain their ability to create undeniable bops with bite"- The Leopheard
